The Fox Guarding the Henhouse: Trempealeau County’s “Fake” Surveillance Investigation

When I asked for an investigation into the funding and approval of Flock surveillance cameras, I expected an independent review of the facts.

Instead, the County Board Chairman delegated the investigation to the very County staff whose actions were being questioned.

Think about that.

The report’s authors interviewed the Sheriff, former Sheriff, County Administrator, County staff, consultants, attorneys, Flock Safety, WisDOT, and others.

But they never interviewed me—the County Supervisor who raised the concerns, presented the evidence, and formally requested the investigation.

  • No one asked for my documentation.
  • No one asked follow-up questions.
  • No one asked me to explain my findings.

What’s even more telling is what the report doesn’t say. It doesn’t accuse me of lying. It doesn’t say I fabricated evidence. It doesn’t claim the underlying facts I presented were false. Instead, it argues that County officials disagree with my conclusions.

That’s their right, but if this was truly about finding the truth, why wasn’t the person who brought the concerns forward interviewed?

This has never been about attacking law enforcement. It’s about transparency, accountability, and protecting the privacy and tax dollars of Trempealeau County residents.

The people of this county deserve an independent review—not a process where government officials investigate themselves and then declare everything was handled properly.

If we’re going to trust the results, the process has to be trustworthy too. I am not done. Transparency isn’t optional and your liberties are not negotiable.
