The July 8 minutes tell the story: Leonard moved—with a second from Husby—to “postpone any further discussion on Flock Cameras indefinitely.” The motion passed 4-1.
Words matter. Flock is a specific vendor, not the technology itself.
I pointed out to Chairman Johnson and Corporation Counsel that because the postponement was narrowly vendor- and product-specific, automated license plate readers (ALPRs) as a category were still entirely on the table. They agreed.
Of course, thanks to a Zoom failure during the meeting, the public didn’t get to see my presentation before my amended motion came to a 3-2 vote recommending that the sheriff cancel the contract.
