As I see it, I’m Andy Parrish.
This one didn’t make me angry; it just broke my heart.
A third-grade child, so eight or nine years old, wrote the following letter to the editor. “I think it isn’t fair that ICE agents get to push us around and kill some of us. Why don’t they go to jail? We should fight harder more than protests.” End quote.
That’s not a child’s voice. That is a child carrying the emotional baggage and weight of the adult world.
Third grade folks should be about making friends, riding bikes, birthday parties, figuring out reading, and maybe trying to understand math.
You know, being a kid.
Not repeating political arguments that most adults don’t understand.
But here’s what’s more terrifying. Almost 60% of our kids in the public schools still are not reading or doing math at grade level. But at least one can submit a letter to the editor on federal immigration policy. Parents, you deserve a choice, and kids you deserve better.
As I see it, I’m Andy Parrish.
