OPINION: Roundabouts: The silent letter of traffic design

|March 24, 2026|Andy Parrish|Source: www.wizmnews.com

There are two things I can’t stand in life, silent letters and traffic circles.

Neither of them make any sense, they’re unnecessary and the majority of society can’t figure out how to use either one properly.

Well, Onalaska here comes your newest traffic circle at OT and Corporate Drive. Or what I like to call your newest vanity project.

Somebody wants a shiny new roundabout and they want to spend your money to build a solution to a problem that doesn’t even exist.

WisDOT’s own numbers, the last 15 years, one injury accident, zero fatalities. For perspective in that same timeframe, more people were actually killed shaking a vending machine for a stuck Snickers than they were at OT and Corporate Drive.

Stop signs are doing their job and the data proves it. So instead of a cheap stoplight, we’re going to go ahead and go with land grabs, bulldozers and a seven-figure price tag.

For an intersection that was never broken. This is ego with a budget, and you’re paying the price.

As I see it, I’m Andy Parrish.
